Career City College – Grand Opening in Kelowna, BC
KELOWNA – The city’s newest educational institute, Career City College, opened its doors yesterday with a Grand Opening at a new location at 201-1634 Harvey Avenue in the Wentworth Music building.
The packed celebration was attended by a bevy of local business owners and a throng of City Councillors and Dignitaries as well! Maxine DeHart (Kelowna’s current Deputy Mayor), wielded the golden scissors to cut the ribbon during the ceremony, and Becky Harmata (Assistant to the honorable Christie Clark), was chosen to cut the company cake. Aside from cake, there were a number of delectable treats including catering from Kelowna’s own Don-O-Ray Farms!
“It’s really great to have you here,” said Maxine DeHart in her address to the staff of the Kelowna campus. She went on to commend the college for providing a much needed service to the community. Maxine was supported by serval other fellow City Councillors including Mohini Singh, Gail Given and Tracy Gray.
Career City College has opened its doors to help Kelowna residents gain access to affordable and accessible education along with the support required to become gainfully employed in our current economy.
“There are TONS of jobs available today,” said Raj Mathew, Career City College’s Campus Director, “but the vast majority of them require some sort of training, and that is what we are here to provide!” Raj described how many types of training often don’t lead to a specific job and further how most programs do not come with any support for their students to find work. “We only offer programs,” he continued, “that actually lead to gainful employment, and we also provide support to our students until they are actually employed!”
Currently the new campus offers many Accounting, Human Resources, and business programs. The college may even offer Health Care Assistant programs, Medical Office Assistant programs, and more!
The representatives from Career City College spoke about the overwhelming support they received from the community and the great welcome that they have enjoyed from their many educational partners.
