Course Overview

The Community Services Worker Certificate Program at Career City College prepares students to support individuals and communities facing challenges related to mental health, addiction, and social well-being. Students develop foundational knowledge and skills needed to work with diverse populations, including individuals experiencing crisis or social disadvantage.

Through comprehensive online learning, students develop knowledge of client needs assessment, supportive intervention approaches, and community resource navigation. Graduates gain a strong foundation in community support practices and are prepared to pursue opportunities in community organizations, mental health programs, shelters, and other social service settings.

  • Applicants must have completed grade 12 or equivalent or have mature student status (at least 19 years old).
  • Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency through any one of the following:
    1. Completion of grades 9-11, including English 11 with a grade of ‘C’ or higher from a country where English is one of the principal languages.
    2. Completion of 2 years of full-time post-secondary education at an accredited institution where English is the language of instruction.
    3. Provide verified results for one of the English language proficiency tests listed below. Test results must be dated no more than two years before the start date of the program:
      • IELTS Academic: overall score of 5.5 or higher.
      • CAEL Test: Overall score of 40 or above.
      • Duolingo English Test: Overall score of 95 or above.
      • TOEFL iBT: 46 or above.
      • CELPIP: Minimum scores – Listening-6, Speaking-6, Reading-5, Writing-5.
      • Eiken: Pre-1.
      • Cambridge FCE+: 160 or C | Cambridge Linguaskill – B2 or above.
      • PTE: 43 or above.
      • iTEP Academic: 3.5 or above.
  • Mature student applicants: Applicant is 19 years or older at the start of the program and is a Canadian citizen or permanent resident who cannot access is their educational records or provide sufficient evidence of secondary or post-secondary education as outlined above:
    • Applicant provides attestation that they have completed at least three years of full-time instruction in English in a country where the English is one of the principal languages, and
    • Applicant completes an Accuplacer English Assessment (Next Generation: Reading, Writing and WritePlacer) and achieves the following minimum scores:

Asynchronous Online Learning: Students can access online learning platforms 24 hours a day, seven days a week. There are no set classes or times to log in, so students can complete 20 hours of studying per week around their schedule.
